Gavin Maxwell

Gavin is a Senior Vice President at First Pacific Advisors (FPA), a Los Angeles based investment firm with an emphasis on value investing. In this role, he works closely with institutional investment consultants, endowments, and foundations.

Prior to joining FPA, Gavin was a Senior Vice President in the Consultant Relations Group at Lazard Asset Management.  Prior to joining Lazard in 2007, Gavin was an Asset Allocation Analyst in the Advisory Services group at Bear Stearns.  Gavin holds a BA in American History from UNC-Chapel Hill with a minor in Business Administration from the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. He also holds MBA degrees from Columbia Business School and the London Business school. Gavin is a CFA Charterholder.

Gavin is on the board of the St. Saint Andrew's Society of the State of New York, which was founded in 1756 and is the oldest charitable organization in New York State. Among other initiatives, the Society awards five scholarships annually, each valued at $35,000 USD, to support graduate study for one year - three for US students to study in Scotland and two for Scottish students to study in the United States - all of whom are invited to study at a university in their respective areas of study to continue their education. The scholarships are granted for tuition, maintenance and travel. The candidates are of the highest caliber and have varying fields of interest: Law, Finance, Journalism, Education and the Arts.  Since its inception in 1956, the Scholarship Program has awarded nearly 200 graduate-level academic scholarships to promote exchange between American and Scottish universities.

In addition to an academic and professional interest in capital markets, institutional investing, and portfolio theory, he is a proponent of a balanced liberal arts education, with a specific interest in: world history, classical languages, philosophy, and music.
