Carla became hooked on the digital and interactive landscape whilst working in the performing arts. She embarked on a number of pioneering roles in digital publishing and product development in the UK, Continental Europe and Japan.
This took Carla into a digital strategy and product development career path from agencies, publishers, startups to healthcare and e-marketing, before a serendipitous encounter took her to technology supported learning and teaching. Being captivated by the complexities of the International Education landscape and the challenges for digital learning provision, Carla never looked back and has been highly active in the Digital Education and Learning space for more than 15 years.
Carla was Global Digital Director at Cambridge University Press Education, before deciding to give something back and advise and mentor edTech start-ups and organisations in the UK and especially Africa.
Her staunch belief in technology as a catalyst to access to learning keeps Carla inspired. It drove her to join the UCL – Institute of Education, where she works as Director of Futures and where she is heavily involved in Educate, an initiative founded by Prof. Rose Luckin that strives to bring evidence to the edTech sector through a programme of Research Training and mentoring. Carla and and the team are developing and realizing mentorship and training programmes for 250+ London-based edTech startups and teacher or research entrepreneurs over the next 2.5 years.
She is still involved mentoring in Africa and Nepal.
Carla will be collecting the EduTech Leadership Award bestowed on her by the World Education Congress in India, in November this year.
